Horticultural Perlite Uses

What is horticultural perlite? Horticultural grade perlite is a lightweight, porous material. It can improve soil structure, aeration and drainage in gardening. Horticulture perlite is made from volcanic glass which expands as it heats. This creates a white, granular material with a unique structure.

Expanded horticulture perlite is a soilless culture medium which does not harm plants. It is the most ideal medium for sowing, cutting and cultivation. Bulk horticultural perlite is ideal for commercial growers.

You can use it for greenhouse hydroponic plants, seed starting or growing potted plants. You can use horticulture grade perlite as soilless culture substrate alone or mix with peat moss and vermiculite.

Horticulture grade perlite has good physical properties and stable chemical properties. It has good water permeability and air permeability. Perlite media mix with other substrates will make the plant survival rate high. For example, potting soil, coco coir or compost.

Adding the same amount of expanded perlite to the clay soil can increase the soil aeration several times. The roots will contact enough oxygen for respiration.
