Coarse perlite has larger particles. It has a more open and airy structure. This helps improve soil drainage and aeration. Coarse perlite is ideal for heavy soils and container gardening. You can use it in propagation to support root development. Coarse perlite is also preferred for succulents and cacti.
Fine perlite has smaller particles. It’s more powdery and retains moisture more effectively than coarse perlite. You can use it for seed starting or plants. Commercial potting mixes commonly include it to enhance water retention. Fine perlite is better for moisture-loving plants or those in need of a higher water-holding capacity.
