Perlite Uses in Construction

1. Thermal Insulation: Construction perlite is an insulation material. You can use it in masonry walls, cavity walls and under floors. Its insulating properties help reduce heat transfer. This contributes to energy efficiency in buildings.

2. Lightweight Concrete Aggregate: Add perlite to concrete can create lightweight and insulating concrete. It is useful in rooftop decks, structural and precast blocks. This can reduce weight in the applications.

3. Fireproofing: Perlite has a high melting point. It is not flammable. You can use perlite in fire-resistant coatings and materials. It often acts as a fireproof layer in steel structures and around ducts and pipes.

4. Acoustic Insulation: Construction grade perlite also provides soundproofing qualities. It is useful in partition walls, ceilings, and floor systems.

5. Plaster and Stucco: You can mix perlite in construction with plaster and stucco. This can enhance fire resistance, reduce weight and improve insulation. The material will be easier to apply. It is also more resilient to cracking.

6. Soil Stabilization and Geotechnical Fills: Perlite can be used for embankments and other landscape projects. Its lightweight nature reduces the load on underlying soils. This helps in settlement or erosion.

7. Floor Fills and Leveling Compounds: You can add perlite to leveling compounds and floor fills without adding much weight. It also adds insulating properties to these compounds.
